HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The Human Growth and Development Curriculum in the Central Bucks School District is a science-based program that addresses issues associated with human growth, adolescent physiological and emotional changes, the human reproductive system, societal issues, and associated topics, in an organized manner in grades four, five, and six.

A strength in the program’s commitment to family involvement is program activities.  The program utilizes videotapes, DVDs, PowerPoint, worksheets, and other commercial media whenever possible both to motivate and to inform in a factual and systematic manner.

INSTRUCTION

The Human Growth and Development Curriculum content is presented to all grade 4, grade 5, and grade 6 students each spring. Responsibility for this curriculum is shared by classroom teachers, school nurses, and Physical Education teachers as determined by the staff members in consultation with the building principal.

The Human Growth and Development content is School Board approved and represents the full scope of information to be shared with students by Central Bucks staff.  Parent letters, inviting parental review of materials and written consent, is to be received from all students prior to the delivery of this material.

This curriculum was most recently reviewed and updated by a Central Bucks Curriculum Committee during the summer of 2007. The committee was comprised of grade 4-5-6 teachers, school nurses, and building administrators.

All curricular materials associated with this program are available in PDF format.
