| Dear Parents,
We continue to be very proud of the performance of our students on the PSSA standardized tests that are used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to measure student achievement in schools across the state. The results of the PSSA tests are summarized and reported to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The attached NCLB report card summarizes the proficiency levels of our students in reading and mathematics.
While these tests are an important indicator of our students’ performance, they do not tell the whole story about our school. Test scores are only one indication of the performance of our students, and I continue to be very proud of the work that I see our students and teachers doing each day. As I reflect on the daily performance of our students, a few key “Points of Pride” come to mind:
Ÿ Holicong students accept the challenge of performing at a high academic level. The majority of our students earn honor roll status in each marking period, and many students achieve distinguished honors for their diligence in the classroom. We take time to celebrate these important accomplishments, as academic success is crucial to our students’ future endeavors.
Ÿ Holicong students are highly involved in extracurricular activities. One of our fundamental beliefs is that students benefit academically, socially and emotionally from being involved in school-sanctioned activities outside of the classroom. Many of our students take part in sports, clubs, band, chorus, and theater. Our students also participate in community sponsored writing contests, science competitions, and history competitions. As a result, many of our students obtain individual recognition for their performances.
Ÿ Holicong students demonstrate an awareness of community that extends beyond our school. Our students participate in many community service activities to increase social awareness. Holicong students participate in Relay for Life, the creation of “Caring Quilts” for the elderly, and clothing drives each year. Community Service activities help establish an understanding among our students of the diverse needs within our community.
I would like to thank parents for the support you provide to your children, as well as the continued support you provide to Holicong Middle School. Please click on the link to review the PSSA test summaries that comprise Holicong’s NCLB Report Card.
Sincerely,
Jason H. Bucher Principal |
