SAFETY REMINDER

 In response to concerns for the safety of the school children in the area of the Jamison Elementary School, the Warwick Township Police Department would like to remind parents of the following issues:

It is illegal to park your vehicle:

• On a cross walk
• Within 20 feet of a cross walk
• Within 30 feet of a stop sign
• Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
• Blocking a private driveway
• The speed limit within the school grounds is 15 mph.

Jamison Elementary School has a program in place in which the children can be dropped off and picked up in a safe manner. Volunteers assist the children out of the vehicles. 

Parents dropping children off at the school crossing are adding to the confusion and congestion at the intersection.

Additionally, parents choosing to drop off their children at the school crossing must take on added responsibilities. They must watch how the children exit the vehicle, i.e. exiting out of the vehicle curb side. They must make sure the children pay attention to the movements of the vehicles in the area, and pay attention to the fact that children may walk from in between or alongside parked vehicles.

Also, parents leaving the area after dropping off the children must be careful making turning movements and be aware of the fact those children are in the area.

This responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of the parents and not the crossing guard who is responsible for the safety of the children crossing Land Road.

Keeping all of these things in mind, it is the recommendation of the Warwick Township Police Department, that the parents who choose to drive their children to school take full advantage of the drop off/pick up services offered by the school and by doing so will help make this area a much safer place for all the children.
