The Paul W. Kutz Elementary School prides itself on being a school that opens its doors to the public. We want people to share in the joy of learning. We enjoy visitors and hence are happy to have you visiting our web site! Kutz is a warm, friendly, family oriented school. We have almost 600 students and over 200 parent and community volunteers. We believe it does take the whole village to educate the child. Our primary focus is on the student learning goals.
We want all students to have a
broad base of knowledge
and to be:
quality producers effective communicators complex thinkers self directed learners collaborative worker and responsible citizens
We consistently ask students to “Show What They Know and Can Do.” We feel it is not enough to assume that just because students were taught, students have learned. We want students to demonstrate mastery of the concepts and skills they are studying. We do this by asking our students to write letters, to make presentations, to solve real-life math problems, to debate current issues, and to read, read, read! Our staff makes learning come alive by providing students with hands on activities, real world simulations and multi-media presentations. At Kutz, we also focus on the academic standards. Standards are targets for learning. There are two kinds of standards.
Content standards specify what students should know and be able to do.
Performance standards set the level for the quality of the work.
Clear and specific academic standards provide greater focus and clarity to the curriculum. Students know what is expected. Parents know what is expected because common performance standards apply in each classroom. Our teachers and school districts like Central Bucks have always set high standards for learning. But the power of the present standards movement comes from aligning content standards with performance standards. Content standards by themselves are only statements of hoped-for-learning. It is the accompanying performance assessment that measure actual performance and ensure that students demonstrate competency. The staff and students at Kutz pride themselves on fostering an atmosphere of warmth, caring and mannerly behavior. Students and staff participate in class meetings on a regular basis. A team of fifth and sixth grade students has been trained in peer mediation. Students may visit or make an appointment with our Student Support Counselor at any time. Parents can avail themselves to our Instructional Support Center Resource Library. There are many resources available to help both parents and students through these formative years. Our school is a close, caring community of learners. When you enter our building, you can feel it! Students and staff meet and greet each other in the halls. You might even be asked to be one of our “Mystery Helpers” who checks on the mannerly behavior in the building. We feel that being prepared for life means knowing how to relate to others so we practice, practice, practice these skills. We hope you enjoy learning about our school and visiting our web site. |
