PRESS RELEASE
February 7, 2007

Lenape Middle School, Doylestown, Pennsylvania is selected as a 2007 National School to Watch

DOYLESTOWN, PA., February 7, 2007 – On February 1, 2007 Lenape Middle School, Doylestown, Pennsylvania received official notification that it has received both state and national recognition as a School to Watch.

The Don Eichhorn Schools to Watch Program is a partnership in Pennsylvania that includes the Pennsylvania Middle School Association, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Lehigh University, Gettysburg College, and Duquesne University. This partnership was developed through the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grade Reform.

Lenape is one of three middle schools in Pennsylvania and approximately 100 nation wide that have received this recognition. The Forum seeks to improve student learning dramatically by advocating that schools provide strong academics, respond to students’ needs and interests, and ensure equal access to high quality classes.

According to Nick Chubb, principal, “This recognition reflects on the commitment to our students and to the promotion of academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational structure. The Schools to Watch recognition reflects on our entire school community – students, parents, and staff. Lenape will celebrate 50 years of service in the 2007-08 school year. This is a great way to celebrate those years and to kick off our anniversary.”

Lenape is presently planning for an April 27th school-wide celebration. Chubb stated, “Our staff and students have worked very hard in an exciting and challenging middle school to demonstrate a strong engagement in their education. This ceremony is an affirmation of the fine work so many have done in the school, district, and larger community.”
