Dear
Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Tamanend Middle School
continues to be very proud of the performance of our students on the PSSA
standardized tests that are used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to
measure student achievement in schools the state. The results of the PSSA tests
are summarized and reported in order to meet the requirements of the No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001. The attached NCLB Report Card summarizes the
proficiency levels of our students in the tested areas.
While these tests are an
important indicator of student performance, they do not tell the whole story
about our school. Test scores are only one indication of the performance of our
students, and I continue to be very proud of the work that I see our students
doing each day. As I reflect on the daily performance of our students, a few key
“Points of Pride” come to mind:
-
Our students are
highly involved with co-curricular activities offered at our school.
Many Tamanend
students participate in athletics and in other activities which stress
teamwork and which appeal to a variety of interests. Our music programs
continue to be a highlight as over 70% of our students are involved with
band, choir, orchestra, or our performing arts program. Our school play
involves over 100 students as well as many families in our learning
community. Visual arts provides yet another creative outlet for our
students.
-
Students continue to
earn individual awards and honors for their work.
Our students participate in different music and athletic competitions
(including cheerleading) throughout the region. We present scholar-athlete
and scholar-performer certificates each marking period in addition to
regular honor roll awards. Tamanend also recognizes overall academic
excellence students through a special Principal’s Awards evening program
each year.
-
Students show interest
in their community that extends beyond our school. Community service is a given in the Tamanend
culture. Students support charities and community organizations through
volunteer work or fund-raising. Tamanend students think beyond themselves
as they grow to adulthood.
I would like to thank
parents and guardians for the support you provide to your children as well as
for the continued support you provide to our school. Please click the link

Card.
