Everything in life requires persuasion.  Clearly, the authors of the Common Core agree.  If you look carefully, you will see persuasive (or argumentative) writing through out the grade levels and subject areas.
 
But the focus is no longer arguing about the "solution", instead it is arguing about which evidence you picked led you to that solution:  In math it wouldn't be justify your answer; instead, it would be prove that the formula you picked to get to that answer is the right formula.
